Before anyone of us became an entrepreneur, we made two key decisions.

No one compelled us to make these decisions.

But we did them anyway, because of the potential to be free to create our own future, based on our own vision.

These two decisions require taking risks that most other people aren’t willing to take. And, admittedly, what I have learned as a Transformational Business Strategist & Coach, these two key decisions are made with a rather varying level of clarity.

So, what are these decisions?

#1 The first entrepreneurial key decision is that you would depend on yourself, not anyone else, for your own financial success.

#2 The second is that you would first create value for others, and you’d before expecting rewards or opportunities in the marketplace.

The purpose of any business is to create value and make a profit.

With that, most entrepreneurs tend to diverge from is the fact that they – nothing or no one else – are their most important resource in creating the business growth and success they want.

This is what gets many entrepreneurs stuck in tasks and activities that are irritating and frustrating to them. Sometimes these are activities that once were exciting – but as the entrepreneur outgrew these tasks without realizing that it had happened.

These irritating tasks, however, offer you the biggest resource for business growth. That is possible by freeing yourself up from tasks that reduce your productivity. Firstly, because it takes ‘forever’ for you to do them and secondly because they shatter your focus and drain your energy. No one performs the best from that energy.

You need to identify what those activities truly are so you can strategically free yourself up from them so that you can then use more time on your ‘playground’ doing things that you love and are great at.

  • Start by documenting your daily work for at least 7 working days. Write down the tasks you do and the time it took to do them.
  • Mark a task with red color if it irritated or frustrated you, yellow if it was ok, and green if it excited you and re-energized you.
  • Next, calculate what percentage of work hours you spend on the red (irritating), yellow (ok), and green (energizing) zone of work. For most, it’s an eye-opening moment.

Now you know why your business doesn’t feel like it used to… and you can do something real about it.

You can have your red zone tasks given to someone, to whom they appear green. Meaning people with talents and strengths that are different from and complementary to your own.

Not having irritating tasks to handle, you can spend much more time with the activities that excite you and energize you the most. This is where the most efficient growth comes in your business, from your authentic strengths.

You are the most important resource in your company.

Freeing yourself up to focus your time and attention on breakthroughs that grow your business is one of the most effective ways to create your own future, based on your own vision.
